Wrigley FieldFine. I’ll admit what I’m wondering about is kind of weird today, but it was spurred on by a news report about the opening of the baseball season this week, specifically the Chicago White Sox as the Cubs aren’t in until Friday, April 4th for their home opener, while the Sox start at home today. Right now the White Sox seem to be the bearer of better opening day weather, hopefully in the 60’s but kind of cloudy, while the Cubs will have the traditionally cold, 43 degrees, but at least it’s not supposed to rain.

Sorry, I got a little distracted about the weather, back to the news report.

I’m watching the report and it’s your traditional kind of stuff how the weather should be fine, how hope springs anew for the team, how there are new food offerings at the ballpark, and then they show a clip of a police office detailing how there will be zero tolerance for alcohol on the street, how the police will be watching for drunks in the neighborhood, and how they’ll be on the lookout for “individuals coming down to do stuff they’re not supposed to.”

To me it just seemed like an odd statement, “individuals coming down to do stuff they’re not supposed to.” Isn’t that who the police are always supposed to be looking for? And what dictates “what you’re not supposed to do” at an opening day? So please, tell me if you would like to comment, what are some things you are supposed to do at an opening day so that I know what I’m now supposed to do?

As opening days go, or any event I suppose, there are probably a lot of things you didn’t intend to do, but I’m wondering, in attending an event, have you gone somewhere to do something you’re not supposed to do? And for that matter, what was it?

That’s it for this one! I’m Andy!! L8R!!!

Now that pitchers and catchers have duly reported, as well as the rest of the players, it’s that time of year when, unless your basketball team is great, or you are a hockey nut, your sport’s thoughts are probably drifting to baseball, because, as James Earl Jones says in “Field of Dreams,” – “The one constant through all the years… has been baseball.”

Yes, even if you are a casual fan there is hope, hope that this year your team might be a little bit better, that maybe, just maybe, this could be the year that they catch fire and actually become good, or that, God forbid, they might actually make it to the playoffs (Oh, wait, most everyone makes it to the playoffs nowadays – scratch that – The World Series).

Me, I have three teams that have my loyalty, the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Cubs. The Indians are always near and dear to my heart because they are really my home-town team, the team I loved while growing up in Lorain, OH, even though they always sucked, and my first big-league game. The White Sox and Cubs are a result of my transplantation to Chicago for college, and my general sticking around here. Back in college we would go to the old Comisky Park quite a bit as it was right across a few streets from Illinois Institute of Technology, my college alma matter, and a trip to a Cubs game became a staple of Rush Week in our fraternity.

As the years progressed my core group of friends would generally score bleacher tickets to opening day for the Cubs, a little easier back in the day before the online ordering system became a cluster-f of “Waiting Room” delays, though lately, I’ve missed a few, although, for me, the bleacher experience has come and gone, preferring now the comfort of my own seat, with a little less of a “drunk” crowd around me.

In any case, opening day is coming soon, and though I’ll be missing it this year I will have hope for all of my teams, at least until probably the end of opening day, and I wonder: Have you been to an opening day?

That’s it for this one! I’m Andy!! L8R!!!

Have You Ever Been Pooped on by a Bird?

I don’t know if it’s because it’s that time of year, or because the Canadian Geese seem to have no clue anymore of where to migrate to, but lately, at the park where I walk Milo, the geese have claimed most of the park and like to go in various landing patterns during our walk. The thing is their landings patterns don’t really follow any runways, and they somehow seem to follow us on our walk, flying overhead and making me tell Milo, “Don’t look up, Buddy! You might get poop in your eye!” Why? Because as far as I’m concerned Canadian Geese are just poop machines and serve just about no other purpose.

Sure, I have my fears about Canadian Geese taking over the world as once they dive-bombed my car (Thank God the sunroof was closed!), and the story was also perpetrated that they were responsible for contaminating the water supply where I live, but luckily, on our walks, we haven’t been the victims of a Canadian bombing attack. That’s not to say I haven’t been pooped on by a bird before as I recall two instances, one when I used to work in downtown Chicago and got pooped on walking next to a building, and the other going to a Chicago Cubs game and walking under the El-tracks.

Being winter and getting Milo out for decent walks is more of a chore than an enjoyment now, and instead of just the weather I now have the concern of a geese bombing incident (Happily Milo doesn’t want to eat the goose poop that is on the ground!), and as the geese come in for a landing I think back to the times I’ve been pooped on, even writing about it before, and I plight: Have you ever been pooped on by a bird?

That’s it for this plight! I’m The  Dude on the Right!! L8R!!!

Happy Birthday America, Beastly is Bad, Whitey’s is Good, Burn Notice is Back and Everyone Loves a Parade!

As a founding member of T.G.A., I explain to Stu Gotz during our "Weekend Wrap-up!" podcast that I am due some sanctions for missing the latest "Transformers" movie, especially when it was in lieu of driving to Moline, IL, in search of ice cream at Whitey’s and then finding some good ribs at "Jim’s Rib Haven" in nearby Quad City, Rock Island. Stu, happily, still has all of his digits after the 4th of July weekend, probably because he let the professionals set off the fireworks, and also controlling himself from getting into any altercations with White Sox fans during a Crosstown Classic game at Wrigley Field. I saw a small-time looking parade in a city that isn’t small-time, Stu is happy that "Burn Notice" is back, I’m sad that " Men of a Certain Age" is almost over for the summer, and Stu saw some movies that are old – but at least from the 2000’s, and doesn’t recommend "Beastly," at all.

Hopefully all of you have all of your digits left and your hearing is able to listen to our podcast, because even with all of this, somehow we also talk about more!

Thanks for listening!

A Home Opener Tale, Bubble Tea, Tangles, Diaries, and Goodbye Richard Hatch.

It’s a rainy day, and it’s a Monday, and it’s another episode our our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast. Rainy days are also mentioned because Stu Gotz went to the Chicago Cubs home opener, telling some tales of losing baseball and trips to Greektown, while I made a trip to Oak Brook Mall with tales of weird clothes and finding a place with bubble tea in Downer’s Grove called Bello Tea. Stu’s weekend wasn’t all about baseball, as he also breaks down the movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,” while, for what it’s worth, we also give you the breakdown of the Disney movie “Tangled” from an adult dude point of view.

Richard Hatch is gone from “Celebrity Apprentice,” Stu says I should watch “Break Out Kings” on A&E, I’m fighting some kind of cold, and we still can’t decide if Saturday Night Live is good again.

Comfortable Socks, American Idol, Celebrity Apprentice, New Jersey, and Movies Nobody Saw.

I’m sick of winter, and during this episode of our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast Stu Gotz and I discuss how, with the Chicago Cubs home opener coming up, we have a pretty good idea that the weather will suck for it, mostly because it usually does. We are both watching TV and I dissect “American Idol” for him, and how I think the judges wasted their “Save,” while he and Mama Gotz are hoping that “V” comes back next season and Stu is eagerly awaiting “Doctor Who.”

I saw people celebrating “Wear Your Pajamas” day, Stu had to buy comfortable socks, I’m loving this season of “Celebrity Apprentice,” and we discuss a bunch of movies we didn’t see. All of that and more!

A Bachelor Party Survivor, Men in Propeller Hats, Too Much Sex, and “30 Rock” Spoofs Housewives.

Spring has sprung! That means little girls are patiently waiting to frolic in the flowers while men go on bachelor party adventures! Well, some men go, in this case Stu Gotz, and it was for our pal, The Dude on the Left! Me, I stayed back to hold down the fort, but during this episode of our "Weekend Wrap-Up!" podcast, Stu tells some tales of old men trying to be young again, at least those tales he could tell.

Yup, Stu returned from a trip with the boys to Cubs Spring Training, and as I hear about it I’m sad I missed it, well, at least the Cubs Spring Training games part. Me, meanwhile, I was hanging in downtown Chicago with my BFF, seeing men in propeller hats, women with orange hair, and later snuggling with her as we watched "Love & Other Drugs" where I agreed with her that there was actually too much unnecessary sex in the movie, and neither of us could figure out why the brother had a storyline.

I taught my wife about procrastinating, Stu saw "Gran Torino," and both Stu and I watched "30 Rock," thought not together, with me having an even bigger appreciation for the episode, the fan of "The Real Housewives…" that I am.

Ribfest, Cub’s Game, Friends, Movies, Lebron, and TV – It Must be The 4th of July!

By: The Dude on the Right

It was the 4th of July weekend, and Stu Gotz and I are on Lebron Watch! Okay, we really aren’t, but during this podcast episode of our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” we do talk about Lebron James and his signing with the Chicago Bulls, or Cleveland Caveliers, or maybe he’ll just retire – wouldn’t that be a hoot!

We both did, however, have a nice 4th of July weekend (and hope yours was nice as well), with Stu catching a Chicago Cubs game, me attending Ribfest in Naperville, IL, and while I watched a George Clooney movie about goats via my Netflix, Stu caught some old episodes of the TV show “Dead Like Me.” He also caught “Grown Ups,” which from his description, thankfully I napped instead of heading to the theater.

I did find out I could have watched “Hot Tub Time Machine” on the cheap via my Comcast On-Demand, I realized I screwed up because “Descipable Me” comes out this weekend, and neither of us really cared about the “Twilight” vampire movie that made tons of money at the box office.

A long weekend, but sadly not long enough I say!

The Cubs – They Blow, Father’s Day Musings, Handiness, Storms, Crabs, and Donkey Chips.

Stu Gotz celebrated Father’s Day because, well, he’s a dad, and during this episode of our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast, we find out how Stu celebrated. Let’s just say it had more to do about Mama Gotz and his kids than it was about him, but isn’t that the way a lot of Father’s Days go? Me, sure, Milo, our dog, licked me on the face, so I guess that was my Dad’s day gift!

Celebrating, though, wasn’t all the two of did over the weekend. Nope, Stu got to catch a Chicago Cubs game, I got to rake a lot of mulch thanks to some summer storms (were they really summer storms, though, if summer officially started today?), Stu saw “Killers” with Astton Kutcher, and I saw “It’s Complicated,” so, of course, we give our riveting movie reviews and commentary. Stu was handy, I drove all night for Donkey Chips, Stu likes a YouTube video making fun of the BP oil spill, and I’m watching Bethany getting married.

We do a lot over the weekend, and we do our best to tell you about it!

Thanks for listening!

Congrats to The W.G.N.!, iPad Touching, A Birthday Lunch Idea, TV Talk, and No Lyle Lovett

By: The Dude on the Right

Congrats to The W.G.N. for graduating college, but sadly for me, as I tell Stu during our "Weekend Wrap-Up!" Podcast, is that The W.G.N.’s ceremony didn’t include Lyle Lovett getting an honorary degree so the only excitement for me, other than him graduating of course, was an annoying Asian lady with bad perfume who kept fanning herself. His graduating did give me a chance to actually see my "Make Me Smile" app on an iPad, and Stu and Mama Gotz also got to play with an iPad, too, but Stu was disappointed by the iPad’s lack of Java support so unfortunately it’s "No iPad for Mama Gotz" (she really needs Java, and Stu thinks Steve Jobs should get on the stick and implement it, not counting the fact that Mama Gotz couldn’t play Treasure Isle on Facebook because it doesn’t have Flash, either).

Technology aside, Stu saw a movie called "Gentlemen Broncos" via his Netflix and gives his rundown of the movie, and he is still liking the new Doctor Who, while I re-bailed on "Survivor" when Colby got booted, thankfully I suppose because I would have been pissed because Russell didn’t win again even though he may be the best Survivor player, ever, again.

Stu saw the Chicago Cubs and got the kids a bear, My BFF had a birthday which led Stu to a inform me of a failed opportunity for me to treat her to lunch at Fry’s Electronics, I’m cheering on Brett Michaels for the Celebrity Apprentice finale, and we both wonder who Holly Robinson Peete is.
