Stu & The Dude’s Weekend Wrap-Up! Movie Talk, Football Talk, Scuba Talk, Garth Talk, and More Talk.

The Dude on the Right

Again, finally.  Stu and I have been able to connect again, finally to do a
podcast.  Again, finally.  As much fun as it is doing a podcast alone,
it is so much funner to do them with someone, and for

this episode of "Stu & The Dude’s Weekend Wrap-Up!"
we’ve got a lot to talk
about, and it’s not even about when Stu was away.

Nope, our weekends were
action-packed, with both of us seeing

Fred Claus
and giving our takes on it, and I hip Stu into many things
football, especially the Chicago Bears new quarterback controversy and the Ohio
State Buckeye’s implosion.  Stu tells me that I was right about printer
cartridges, and I was at a 60th birthday party.  We also talk some about my
seeing an upcoming Garth Brooks’ concert, Stu has a lot of scuba talk, and
intermixed in all of that is even more, like both of us digging Natalie Portman!

Thanks for listening!

What’s New? A Movie Review of “Fred Claus.”

For this movie review of “Fred Claus,The Dude on the Right thinks there was the potential for this to be a holiday classic, but lost it with the dastardly plot of Clyde (Kevin Spacey) to shut down The North Pole. The story of Santa (Paul Giamatti) trying to reunite with his brother, Fred (Vince Vaughn), was good enough, but got lost in the mix.

What’s New? A Podcast of: The CMA Awards, Unplug Everything, and More Environment Crap.

The Dude on the Right is tired of being preached to about being “Green,” so for this podcast he gives his own advice that is a hell of a lot easier than that given on “The Biggest Loser” (although most electricians would say it’s bad advice). He also has a theory that “American Idol” is having a larger influence on the country music scene, and is worried about having no TV to watch soon. Go ahead and listen.

The CMA Awards, Unplug Everything, and More Environment Crap.

The Dude on the Right

As I’m watching the Country Music Association Awards last night, that’s the
CMA’s to most of you, it occurred to me that “American Idol” might be having a
bigger influence on country music rather than pop.  Sure, you’ve got your Kelly
Clarkson in pop and Daughtry in rock, but country’s got a bona fide superstar in
Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler is started to become a mainstay, and would
Bucky Convington ever have had a chance at getting a recording contract without
his AI exposure?

Country music aside, I’m starting to get sick and tired of
people telling me I need to be "green."  As I was watching "The Biggest
Loser" a couple of days ago they gave one of the most bizarre pieces of advice
about saving energy,

that I talk about during this podcast
, and give my suggestion instead.  I also only
recycle because it saves me money on garbage, and thanks to the Showtime show
"Penn & Teller:  Bullshit," I don’t feel bad about throwing out that
plastic bottle every now and then.

With my sport’s teams in disarray, and a
writer’s strike threatening what I hold near and dear, namely my TV watching,
I’m also sad about the future of my TV viewing.  Guess I might have to get
out more.

I talk, and talk, and talk, and I can’t believe Thanksgiving is in
two weeks.  Where has 2007 gone?

Thanks for listening!

What’s New? A CD Review of “The Ultimate Hits” from Garth Brooks.

In preparation for his seeing Garth Brooks on November 14th, and then writing a concert review, The Dude on the Right thought he should get the latest Garth CD (with a bonus DVD of videos), titled “The Ultimate Hits.”> As he’s trying to get back into covering music again, he also thought he would review the thing, and he’s happy he has four new songs by Garth. Weirdly enough the DVD actually helped him like the new songs, although he liked the bonus song without a video. The Dude has his “Ultimate” hits for Garth, but most of them never made it to radio. Good thing Garth doesn’t look to The Dude for advice.

What’s New? A DVD Review of “Knocked Up.”

The Dude on the Right spent the big bucks and got the 2-Disc Collector’s Edition DVD of “Knocked Up” to review, and as much as he likes the original movie, the extras on the second disc were, at times, even funnier. Sure, like most extras, there are some things that were kind of iffy, but for Dr. Kuni alone, the second disc is great.

What’s New? A Podcast of: A Funny SNL, A Literally Crappy Saturday, and A Couple of Movies.

For this podcast The Dude on the Right is flying solo because he couldn’t get some technology things together, but he did like Brian Williams on Saturday Night Live. He missed it live, and Johnny Brandmeier live, thanks to a couple of bad tacos, but did see a couple of movies, namely “Bee Movie” and “American Gangster” over the weekend. At least the Hollywood writer’s strike shouldn’t effect his TV viewing until next year.

Stu Gotz and I couldn’t arrange to get together

for this podcast
, and even though we anticipated this last week, we didn’t
try to get a Skype-type connection together either.  I was able to test my
magic box to try and have Stu call in and do a phoner weekend wrap-up, but it’s
one patch cable away from maybe working.  Technology aside, my weekend was
kind of an up and down kind of thing.  My Saturday was perfectly planned,
including calling mom, seeing "Bee Movie," having some tacos for lunch, and
eventually ending up seeing Johnny & The Leisure Suits that night.  All I
know is I should have broken my streak of not having fast food rather than the
tacos, and now I’ve got to find a new taco joint because at about 4PM intestinal
distress destroyed my Saturday night, hence a crappy Saturday.

And speaking of Saturday night, thanks to my TiVo, I watched "Saturday Night
Live," hosted by Brian Williams, on Sunday, and have to admit it was probably
the first time I made it through the entire episode.  I thought Brian
Williams did great, his

SNL Short
was funny as hell, there was a

funny, fake, iPhone commercial
(complete with a hacked iPhone), and I want
to compliment whomever is doing the sound for the bands this season.

Intestinal woes aside, I was able to see "Bee
Movie
" and "American
Gangster,
" and thanks to my friend Crash I’m now okay with not liking the
"Bee" thing.

Stu and I should be back together again next week, I hope.  Thanks for
listening!

What’s New? A Movie Review of: “American Gangster.”

For this movie review of “American Gangster,” The Dude on the Right is still boggled by parents bringing their 10ish year old son to a very R-rated movie. The kid seemed to like the movie because he was clapping at the end, but I was wondering if he was applauding Frank Lucas, the heroin kingpin, or Richie Roberts, the honest cop. That aside, The Dude really like the movie.
