Pirate Radio

I really wanted to like "Pirate Radio" more than I did, so during my Blu-ray review of the movie I try to disect it. Okay, I really don’t, mostly I just give a synopsis of the movie and a brief idea of what to expect on the Blu-ray. Mostly I think I didn’t like it that much because the humor was more along the intellectual, dry kind, and when I was watching the movie I wasn’t in the "thinking mode." Check out the review anyway, it might give you some insight if you might like the movie.

Vegas, Easter, Cubs, Movies, and Treasure Isle is Evil!

After a one week hiatus, Stu Gotz and I are back for our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast. Yup, Stu needed some time away for Easter, and nothing says Easter like taking the Gotz kids to Las Vegas. Me, I just needed a break while I finished up some iPhone app stuff. So we’re back, and Stu was pleased at the version of “Viva Las Vegas” that I found, by the one and only Pirahna Man who used to be heard when Jonathan Brandmeier was on the air here in Chicago. But the podcast isn’t all fun and games. Well, actually it’s mostly fun and games, and also my quick review of “Pirate Radio” that comes out on DVD in prep for my full review later. Stu finally got to see “Up In The Air,” the George Clooney movie, and I watched golf for a change, and it wasn’t just because of Tiger Woods.

And speaking of TV, I tell Stu if “Celebrity Apprentice” is getting any good, Stu was pleased to find that he can now stream Netflix via his Wii, and Stu’s latest TV recommendation is “Supernatural.

Stu tells about a concert coming to the Chicago area, I let Stu know that the latest Zynga Facebook game, “Treasure Isle” is evil because it mixes elements of Farmville and Mafia Wars, and Stu is upset because the school his kids go to seem to be White Sox fans. All of that an more after our hiatus, and it’s good to be back!

Hot Tub Time Machine, No Miley Cyrus Love, Greedy People, and Fun Times in MI!

By: The Dude on the Right

During this episode of our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast, Stu Gotz talks about his recent trip to the state that looks like a mitten, while I have clean balls. Okay, there isn’t that much ball talk, but the both of us did see “Hot Tub Time Machine” and think it is one, funny movie, especially if you lived through the 1980’s. Stu’s trip to Michigan wasn’t nearly as bad as he thought it might turn out to be, I got to witness greedy people at a business expo, and with Easter and the release of the Apple iPad coming up (I’ll let someone else fight about which is more important), Stu has special plans for his celebration.

Me, I tell Stu that things are pretty calm in The Dude world, the TV catching-up is nearly complete, and I’m not really looking forward to the new “Clash of the Titans” this weekend because I love the cheesiness of the original, and then we find out what Stu really thinks about Miley Cyrus because, well, she has a new movie, “The Last Song,” opening this weekend, too. Happy Easter to all of you Christians out there, Happy Passover to our Jewish listeners, and for the rest of you, heck, Happy April!

The Princess and the Frog

Not having kids, and even though I sometimes act like I’m 12, I am still a dude, so for my Blu-ray review of "The Princess and the Frog" I do my best to try to relate to the movie as a little girl, but I just can’t. The singing and dancing is fun enough, it looks good in the old-school animation kind of way, and the story is nice, but I’m a dude, I’m not dreaming of kissing a frog to find my Prince, and even though the dopey alligator was kind of funny, this is really a Blu-ray for the little girls, or the big girls still thinking that maybe they should kiss that frog because the cad they are with sure isn’t a Prince.

Netflix is Cool, Repo Men is Not, Dodge Ball is Cool, Politics is Not. Go Buckeyes!

Somehow The BFF and my NCAA brackets are not busted yet, so during our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast I let Stu know that he should be cheering for The Ohio State Buckeyes as the Sweet Sixteen are now set, and that Mama Gotz should clean the house. Yup, it seems the NCAA basketball tournament is messing with her TV schedule, and she’s not happy about it, but neither Stu nor myself watched that much TV, and I’m thinking Celebrity Apprentice shouldn’t be two hours long.

Stu, though, gave the Netflix on Demand a try, with good success, we both saw “Repo Men” and thought it sucked, Stu was surprised to find Dodgeball at a little kid’s birthday party (Happy Birthday Little Gotz!), and I actually got dressed up for a 60’s themed birthday party. Heck, we even talk a little bit about the health care bill that passed.

Something is seriously wrong with the two of us, and we will know that for sure if either of us end up seeing “Hot Tub Time Machine” this upcoming weekend.

Repo Men

“Repo Men” is not a remake of the cult classic “Repo Man,” instead, during my review, I write, “The weird part about “Repo Men,” when I look back on it, is if you put the names Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, Liev Schreiber, and heck, Alice Braga into the same movie, how do you end up with this, and finally, did they all attend the “James T. Kirk School of Overacting” for a refresher course before filming?” The movie had weird potential, but never seemed to live up to it, and even the scene at the nudie bar didn’t help.

A New Gotz, Fun in a Parade, Birthday Wishes, TV Talk, and I Made an iPhone App!

Make Me Smile AppI can’t believe it took me nearly our entire “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast, but I did find some time to plug my new iPhone / iPod touch app called “Make Me Smile,” now available on the App store! But plugs aren’t really what our weekends were about, hell, Stu Gotz got a new family member, and I was in a parade!

Yup, it’s St. Patrick’s Day time and I went to a parade, although there were not 76 trombones, and I tell Stu all about it, while Stu and the Gotz family help save a dog from being lonely. There was a lack of movie viewing this past weekend, although Stu did catch “The Cove,” the documentary about dolphin killings, and he admitted to getting weepy, while I got weepy watching “The Apprentice,” mostly because Rod Blagojovich is still around. Stu recommends some show called “The Inbetweeners” on BBC, I still can’t do a British accent, and birthday wishes go out to the 6 year old Little Gotz (in a strange, Christopher Walken kind of way), and I’m sad I never at at Harry’s Hot Dogs that used to be in Chicago, with said Harry Heftman celebrating 101 years young.

This upcoming weekend maybe we’ll both catch a movie, “Repo Men” or “The Bounty Hunter” probably at the top of the list, but the good news is that Spring officially begins this Saturday so of course they are calling for snow here in Chicago. Yay!

Holy Crap, I Made an iPhone App!

I so wanted my first post announcing my first iPhone app to be filled with gloriousness, with “Hey, go out and get it!”, with “Let me know what you think!”, with “Sure, I know it’s $.99 and you want it for free, but hey, I do have plans for a limited, free version with ads someday, but really, will an ad above a picture that makes you smile really make you smile?”, and “I have lots of ideas for future versions, but if there are any suggestions you have please throw them my way!”, and all kinds of other fun comments like that, but then I downloaded my app when it was officially approved on Monday.

Low and behold, a little bug that I thought I fixed somehow re-appeared. The thing is that it was a bug that might make you frown and not smile, especially if the first “Make Me Smile” picture you took using the app was priceless, because, well, there was a glitch where the app wouldn’t save the first picture it took. All other pictures would be saved to your library, but not that first one. So instead of a joyous “Holy crap, I made an iPhone app,” all of a sudden I was just saying “Oh, crap.” And made my previous post on the When I Smile site.

But alas, I plugged away at truly eliminating the bug (Please, please, please don’t be there anymore!), and Version 1.1 of “Make Me Smile” is available for download in the app store, and it only has one goal: To be able to, when you need one, make you smile.

Yes, I do have a lot more features in my head planned for the app, and heck, I have other ideas for apps floating in my head, even one for the Entertainment Ave! website, but for now, please feel free to visit the When I Smile site, spend the $.99 for the app, and thanks for your support, suggestions, and smiles!

Old Dogs

I saw “Old Dogs” in the theater and didn’t like it that much, but I liked it a lot more when I watched it in the privacy of my own pad. My Blu-ray review of “Old Dogs” is posted, and pretty much you will get exactly what you expect. It has its moments, but this is really a movie to watch with the kids, and maybe chuckle along with them.

Academy Award Talk, We Saw Alice in Wonderland, a Lazy Sunday, and Ghost Ships in Milwaukee!

By: The Dude on the Right

I’m tired, and during our "Weekend Wrap-Up!" podcast I tell Stu Gotz that I’m blaming the Academy Awards. Yup, the both of us watched pretty much all of the Oscar telecast, and we pretty much agreed on a lot of things, including who won some of the awards and that there was some wacked-out dudette who now has perpetuated the term "Kanye Moment" when she tried to upstage the dude who was giving the speech when Best short something-or-other won an award. So, yes, our podcast has tons of commentary about the Academy Awards telecast, and we even discuss some fashion!

It was a nice weekend for me, especially Sunday when I accomplished absolutely nothing, and Stu had a nice weekend as well, giving a talk up in Milwaukee, WI, for the Ghost Ships Festival. We both were able to see "Alice in Wonderland" and disagree about the use of 3-D in the movie but not about the movie itself, Stu wants everyone to watch Academy Award winning documentary "The Cove," and I’m looking forward to maybe catching "She’s Out of My League" next weekend while Stu doesn’t even seem to know what it is.

Thanks for listening!
