What Would Brian Boitano Do?, What Did Stu See?, What Girl Scout Cookies Do We Like?, and More!

Stu Gotz wishes everyone "Happy Dupa Day!." I know what Brian Boitano would do, and Olympic withdrawal isn’t really a part of this episode of our "Weekend Wrap-Up!" podcast. Sure, the Winter Olympics are over and Stu Gotz has a new Wii game about it, but both of us are actually happy the sport’s fest is over because that means our normal TV viewing is back, especially "Chuck," although we could both do without Jay Leno returning, and we analyze "The Marriage Ref." Me, I didn’t see any movies but did hit a lot of stores, while Stu and the Gotz clan went to see "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" and he says that "Harry Potter" has nothing to worry about.

Stu does make me a little bummed, as I think about it now, because he’s got Girl Scout Cookies on the way, and I have none, but I’ll get over it as I sort of spill the beans a little about a project I’m finishing up that has kept me away from movie-going. Stu wonders if my BFF will be mad if we have a boys day and see "Alice in Wonderland" this Friday, he also is looking forward to the DVD of "Gentlemen Broncos," and is preparing for Daylight Saving Time on March 14th, and me, well, next week I’m hoping to make a giant announcement, a huge announcement, or at least an announcement, but for now you’ll have to listen to get a clue!

Free Grand Slams at Denny’s, The Super Bowl is Done, and What is Burn Notice?

By: The Dude on the Right

The Super Bowl may be over, but during our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast, the memories live on! Yup, Stu Gotz and I talk about the game, the commercials, the success of The Puppy Bowl, the free Grand Slam breakfast at Denny’s, and the resignation of Scott Lee Cohen, the dude elected to run for Lieutenant Governor in Illinois, but because the Democrats didn’t like him, they made him cry, and quit, during halftime of the Super Bowl. Gotta love politics in Illinois!

And along with the big game, we also talk more TV and find out that Stu would have been a great contestant on Saturday Night Live’s game show of “What is Burn Notice?” because, well, he knows what “Burn Notice” is, and that my DVR is filled with Oprah and Ellen.  My BFF and I searched out some wedding reception options, a snow storm might cause a lot of school closings in Chicago, my BFF is now the only person who hasn’t seen “Avatar,” and watch out for that salami, especially if you bought it from Costco, because there is some kind of recall. And if you think salami might be stinky, don’t go pee at Chicago’s City Hall.

Fame

Stu Gotz watched the recently released Blu-ray version of “Fame,” the re-make that was in theaters in 2009, and let’s just say that he’s not a fan. Okay, he pretty much didn’t like the movie at all, and he’s got his reasons. Oddly enough, and usually Stu likes thinks quick and to the point, but he thought the movie would have been better served as a three part mini-series so that there could be more character development, and not really surprising, he wishes that mini-series could have been on HBO or Showtime so that the portrayal could have been a little bit more true-to-life, what with the swearing, fighting, and general mayhem that kids can get into nowadays.

Fame, Kansas City, and a New Ringtone

By:The Dude on the Right

Download and ListenDownload the Podcast!

Okay, with the website design stuff taking place, this podcast was actually recorded on January 19, 2010, so a little over a week ago as I’m getting ready to post it. So, sure, we talk a little bit about the Golden Globe awards that were over a week ago, and I make a reference to the “Pants on the Ground” man that we have all forgotten, and if this podcast were timely Stu would be making some crack about the new Apple tablet computer being called the iPad, where if you tricked it out it would be called the MaxiPad. But there is some time-non-discript talk, so get ready for Stu’s verbal take on the re-make of the movie “Fame” (the written review will be posted in a few days), we find out why Stu missed the normal podcast day last week, we find out that Kansas City can be fun, and no you don’t have to eat crayons to have fun there.

Stu also celebrated an anniversary, I have a new ringtone for Stu thanks to the Geico commercial, and this podcast will have to do until next week when we find out where Stu has been, again, and what I did this weekend.

Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side

The Dude on the Right was a half-fan of “Family Guy,” a full-fan of “Star Wars,” so he expected to be a 3/4 fan of “Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side.” Oddly enough he became a 5 Star fan of the Blu-ray, and during is review he does his best to explain why.  Okay, he doesn’t really explain too much, but he loved the extended episode, is becoming a “Family Guy” convert, and thinks “Family Guy” fans will love the “Fact-Up” Special Feature.

10 Things I Hate About You

Hard to believe it’s been 10 years since “10 Things I Hate About You” came out, and also helped launch the career of Heath Ledger, but The Dude on the Right reviews the 10th Year Blu-ray Anniversary edition, and thinks the movie still holds up well. Sure, you get the standard story about teen in high school, but a lot of the story still rings true, and it is a great look back at some of the early works of Julia Stiles and Heath. The Blu-ray really needs more extras, but hey, you’re just getting this one for the story and to see Heath Ledger when he was young and studly.

Some Quick Words From:

The Dude on the Right

Neither Stu Gotz nor myself really liked "Balls of Fury," but even so we still
pay homage to the movie by playing a little table tennis during our review.
Stu’s got a pretty good slam, while I can put some wicked spin on the ball.
Is a movie about ping pong any fun?  Ehh.  There was potential and
some of the rumor mills said the filmmaker folks (including some from the "Reno
911" TV show) caved to some of the suggestions from the movie studio folks.
I’m guessing the filmmaker folks should have stuck to their guns.  Good or
bad, both Stu and I really did like Maggie Q, and would have liked her even more
if the movie were rated R and she got naked.

Quick Words From:

The Dude on the Right

I did a full-blown written review for

"Blades of Glory,"
but that’s not nearly as fun as me teaching Stu Gotz a
lesson about how things should be for people skating on the ice.  We both
loved the movie, found it funny as hell, but Stu also thought he would be a
total pain in the ass and give the movie 4 3/4 stars out of 5.  Some days I
just want to hit him with a stick.

Quick Words From:

The Dude on the Right

I have to admit that I was entertained more than I figured I would be by "Ghost
Rider."  Stu Gotz also was entertained, just slightly less than I was.
Both of us liked the outfits Eva Mendes had on as Roxanne, and I even sing a
couple of tributes, one to Roxanne and the other to Johnny Cash.  Stu
didn’t like my singing, but he had his own salute to the movie, much to my
dismay.  If you want, skip my synopsis (duh, the movie’s about a dude who
sells his soul to the Devil) and get right to Stu’s salute, about 3/4 of the way
in.  Sadly, for me, he brought his own fire extinguisher.

Quick Words From:

The Dude on the Right

I guess Stu is pretty much pissed at me and thinks I suck as a reviewer, and it’s left
up to me to tell you about "Jackass Number Two."  Me, I also loved the
movie so much that I decided to try and recreate one of the stunts.  Stu
thinks I should leave the stunts to the "Jackass" professionals, but I’m pretty
sure I can pull it off!  I did write a text review, for what it’s worth.
