As I was working on my never-ending project of finishing the book I started like five years ago about when I posted a word a day on Facebook, a project I constantly wrestle with “Who would actually buy this thing? Dammit, I’m going to finish it anyway.”, I came across the word “decision.” As a spoiler I posted that word way back on November 10, 2011, and it was really about my wrestling with the decision if I should shut down my website, Entertainment Ave!
Obviously it’s still here, although, from time to time, I do still wonder if I should just pull the plug, but one of the comments for that day was from my sister, Janet, and it was “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.” It made me think that as a kid there wasn’t really the randomness in picking things if you could quickly do the math, but it also made me think how we were kind of violent. I mean, you had “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by the toe. If he hollers let him go. Eeny, meeny, miny moe.” Really, we should hurt a tiger to decide who goes first? Then there was the “My mother punched your mother right in the nose. What color did she bleed?” Yay, I get to go first because your mother has purple blood, and because I know purple has six letters!
Not being a kid any longer, and not having kids, I do kind of wonder what rhymes kids use to decide things in this politically correct world, why was it okay for us to promote our mother’s fighting in order for us to choose things, and sure, being out of the “kid” loop, can you get in trouble for using a rhyme like that in school. I mean, would there be that walk to the principal’s office to hear, “Billy, we don’t use sayings like that because it’s not nice for mommies to punch each other. Oh, and by the way, you also can’t pass this note to Julie saying you like her because that makes her uncomfortable. Now go back to class and solve 45 – 15 in twenty, easy, common core math steps. Be good!”
Sometimes I think I’m glad I’m old, but if you could help a dude out who sometimes needs to make a decision, can you comment with what the kids use today to make choices? Maybe one day I’ll wonder if I should still keep Entertainment Ave! running, and I won’t want to promote violence to decide it.
That’s it for this one! L8R!!
