The trailer doesn’t say this for sure, but supposedly Ricki (Jennifer Lopez) is a lesbian and that’s why she’s not turned on
by Larry Gigli (Ben Affleck). It seems Gigli is hired by mob-types to
kidnap and watch over Brian (Justin Bartha). He’s a mentally
challenged son of a prosecutor/lawyer/district attorney/someone about
to prosecute a mob-type. With no faith in Gigli they also hire Ricki
to watch over Gigli to make sure he does a good job. Well, Gigli and
Ricki sleep in Gigli’s bed, but she tells him the he’s not her type so
don’t even bother making a move. If she is indeed a lesbian, can Gigli
get Ricki to switch teams. And what about the kid? Will Gigli get
attached to him as well so that he doesn’t want the mob-types to use
him as a pawn?
Expect a “trying to be too quirky” romantic comedy that will
probably just become a cookie-cutter love story in the end. I’d prefer
they make this a dark romantic comedy, maybe with a cool tragedy, but
my guess is Gigli and Ricki get together and the boy goes back to his
family. I don’t expect too much, but my ultimate hope is that with the
movie being Rated R for sexual content, among other things, maybe J.
Lo gets it on with another woman. That’s what would really bring
people into the theater.
