Josh Lucas plays coach Don Haskins, in 1966, at Texas Western
College. His claim to fame: Leading an all-black starting line-up to
an NCAA national championship. That may not seem big when you think
about it, except, remember, this was back in 1966 and segregation
was a huge issue. The team was good, it’s just they didn’t get the
respect they deserved, and the win helped open up the fact that
color shouldn’t make a difference if you are a talented athlete.
It’s a good story, and with Bruckheimer involved, the basketball
action should be pretty good. An after the holiday's film that
should be good for the family.
