The Illusionist
A Movie Preview |

This movie’s got two of whom I consider some of the better actors
out there in movie-land, Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti, and
Jessica Biel is very easy on the eyes so the one thing that bums me
out is that the movie is rated PG-13, that means Jessica isn’t
showing us her boobs. In any case, the trailer seems to show that
Eisenheim (Norton) is an illusionist in the early 1900’s. Go figure,
Eisenheim fall in love with Sophie (Biel), who ends up being a
Princess. You would think this would be bad for Eisenheim, but he’s
an illusionist, and a damn good one, and get her to fall for him.
Well, the powers that be aren’t too happy about Eisenheim having
his sites set on Sophie, so they enlist the head cop, Uhl (Giamatti),
to make sure things don’t go well for Eisenheim. But, as we know,
Eisenheim is an illusionist, and that makes things pretty tricky.
The movie is from the producers of “Crash” and “Sideways,” and
has two previous Academy Award nominees, Giamatti and Norton. The
“Crash” folks might have learned a thing or two from their last
victory, realizing you don’t need to release what might be an
Oscar-worthy film at the end of the year. If this movie can live up
to the folks involved, and Paul and Edward give the performances we
usually get from them, this could be an early Oscar contender.
For me I’ll work to catch this film if it opens wide enough for
my local gigaplex, after, of course, I see “Snakes on a Plane” which
opens the same weekend. The movie does look very good, though, in an
artsy kind of way.
That’s it for this preview! I’m The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!! |
