You just never seem to know with something Kevin Costner is
involved in because for the most part his movies are either great or
they suck. Because of that you hate to get wrapped up in a trailer for
a movie because as most trailers do, they show the best stuff, and the
trailer for “Open Range” shows that the movie does have potential to
be a decent western type of flick.
Pretty much the story is Duvall and Costner are freegrazers. I
guess that means they just rumble their cattle around without a ranch
to call home. Well, they stumble upon a small town with a corrupt
Sheriff and corrupt rancher and now it’s a power struggle. Also
included is a love story between Costner and Bening.
The trailer shows your typical things in a western – a love story,
gunfights, a town afraid, blah, blah, blah. The couple of things look
to save this movie are Robert Duvall and Annette Bening. Duvall is
almost always fantastic, and Bening usually plays a fiery love
interest. It's also rated R which could result in some quality
violence. For me, though, it looks like a tough call:
“Freddy vs.
Jason” or “Open Range?” I’ll have to see as August comes around.
