Gosh, the synopsis I originally read was such wordy
drivel that I almost didn't want to see this movie, then I
saw the trailer. Here's what the trailer showed: Christina
Ricci is Penolope. She's the daughter of some really rich
folks, only she looks like a pig. No, she's not fat, but
she's got a face that looks like a pig. Her family, led by
Catherine O'Hara, tries to find her a husband, but as much
as they offer tons of cash to her would-be suitors, once the
boys see her they run for the hills. Sick of being holed up
in a mansion and ridiculed, Penolope ends up in the real
world, where Annie (Reese Witherspoon) sort of befriends
her. She suddenly embraces who she is, becomes a confident
woman, and the one dude who actually liked her for who she
is, well, you can probably guess they fall in love (at least
I'm assuming).
There is some weirdness in the movie, like there is some
kind of curse that makes her look like she does, and if she
finds love, well, the curse goes away, but the movie looks
cute. Sure, it's only rated PG, and it's probably geared for
the tween crowd, but I'm a fan of Christina Ricci and a
stalker of Reese Witherspoon (who looks fantastic), so as
long as this movie opens in major markets, I'll probably try
to catch it.
It's being promoted as a fairy tale, where I guess
pig-girl becomes a hero. Sometimes we need that.
That's it for this preview! I'm The Dude on the Right!!
