I think they have finally turned a great movie, a great premise,
into, sadly, a “trying to make more money” machine. “Silence of the
Lambs” was such a great movie we almost forgot how they get made.
Jodie Foster ditched on “Hannibal”, but people still flocked to see it
and Ray Liota get his brain sliced up, but other than the actors
signed onto this film, the likes of Hopkins, Edward Norton, Ralph
Fiennes, and Harvey Keitell, well, how much more of Hannibal Lector do
we really want to digest (I just had to put that “digest” remark in
for some humor – get it?).
Anyway, this one has Edward Norton as the detective dude, and he’s
the dude who actually caught Dr. Lector. Yea, some other dude is
killing people, and he figures out the only way to catch the killer is
with the help of the bad doctor.
I doubt people will flock to this movie as a prequel to the
“Silence of the Lambs” like they did for “Hannibal,” I’m just hoping
this movie can stand on its own, and be good enough to spread by word
of mouth.
Sadly, even with the names associated with this one, it just looks
like a movie to try and make a few more dollars based on a great film.
I really hope this can surpass the original, but I really doubt it.
I’ll see it anyway, but I’m not expecting greatness. I’ll let you
know.
