A couple of weeks ago I gave a bad rating to a movie that
had nudity, violence, gore, and a stupid story, etc.
"Reindeer Games" has most of the same, but the stupid story
was entertaining and threw in a few twists. "Reindeer
Games" won't get the same bad review.
"Reindeer Games" had three main characters: Rudy
(Ben Affleck), Ashley (Charlize Theron), and Gabriel (Gary
Sinise). Rudy just got out of jail and impersonates
his cell-mate, Nick, and who wouldn't if you fell in love
with your cell-mates girl whom your cell-mate has never seen
because they met in a magazine add. So, Rudy romps in
the sack with Ashley, and all is well until Gabriel shows
up, thinking you used to work as a security dude in a casino
and would be the perfect guy to find out how to rob said
casino. Rudy plays along, pretending to be Nick,
mostly so he doesn't get killed, and makes up most of how to
rob the casino. Does this sound a little
confusing? Well, it really isn't, I'm probably just
doing a bad job of explaining it, but it is Rudy's trying to
be Nick which ties it all together.
So, you've got Rudy/Nick, trying to save his ass by
making up how to rob a casino, you've got Ashley, bearing
all (I just so love an actress proud of her body!) and using
men to her womanly best, and Gabriel being a creepy
gun-runner turned thief who really just wants the money and
the girl.
The fun with "Reindeer Games" is really how stupid
everyone is. Rudy gets suckered in as most men would
by Ashley, we find that Ashley is playing multiple roles in
front of everyone, and poor Gabriel would have been better
off just shooting Rudy to begin with. Lots of site
jokes center around this stupidity, chuckles never stop
throughout, you've got some quality violence, a great plot
twist at the end, Charlize isn't afraid to show her boobies,
and Ben even shows his butt.
You might get bored with "Reindeer Games" if you try to
take it too seriously, but if you take it as a story about a
bunch of stupid criminals trying to rob a casino, I think
you'll like it. I took it that way and enjoyed the
movie, and with that give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
