The Savages

So you get a couple of siblings, a brother (Philip
Seymour Hoffman) and sister (Laura Linney), living their
life's very separate from each other, only to get the phone
call that their father, who pretty much treated them like
crap in their younger days, isn't doing so hot anymore.
Suddenly they have to come back together for their dad, who
is losing it, doesn't seem to remember things, and thinks
the nursing home they want to put him into is a hotel.The trailer for "The Savages" shows a tear-jerker of a
movie mixed with funny writing that will also make you
laugh. The acting looks top-notch, and of course, in this time
of year with releases from indie studios, well, you get talk
of Oscar nominations, and for a lot of families you might
also do
a slight double take if you watch this movie and see your
own family.
I'm not sure how wide this movie will open but it does
look to have a lot of potential for being both poignant and
funny. For me, in the bleakness that is usually late
December/January
movies, this looks like it might be a refreshing watch in
heart of winter.
