Wanted
A Movie Review

MPAA Rated - R

It's 1:50 Long

A Review by
The Dude on the Right
When I saw the first trailer for "Wanted" I thought this movie was going to be a sort-of serious assassin movie. Luckily the opening scene from the movie snapped me right into "This movie is going to have a ton of convolutedness, so you better just get ready to roll with it." And roll with it I did, loving this movie for the preposterousness it invoked, sidestepping the laws of physics, and enjoying seeing Angelina Jolie’s butt, as well as a fantastic look of Chicago in the movie. Sometimes I’m easy to please. Let’s get to it…

James McAvoy is Wesley. He’s pretty much a sad-sack, in a job he hates that barely pays the bills, still living with his girlfriend even knowing his coworker is having some mid-afternoon quickies with her. He wonders where his life is going, and then one day Angelina Jolie (Fox) "saves" him in a gunfight, there is a car chase getting away from Cross (Thomas Kretschmann), and we have now learned that there is a group called "The Fraternity," developed by weavers (yes, those kinds of weavers – think thread and a loom), who are assassins given their targets by encoded messages in a piece of cloth, and with the death of one of the members of The Fraternity, Wesley is recruited knowing he may have some fantastic powers, like using his adrenalin to slow time (at least in his head), and twist a gun, just as the bullet is coming out, to give the bullet a sort of "English," to bend the bullet from going in straight line. In any case, Fox is there to help with Wesley’s training, which pretty much includes getting the crap beat out of him a lot, Sloan (Morgan Freeman) is there as the leader of The Fraternity, and Wesley wants Cross dead because, well, of the stories he is told.

But things are not that simple in The Fraternity anymore - people are defecting, some people may not be exactly what they seem, and who knew the destructive power of vermin! Nope, "Wanted" does its best to take you on a thrill ride reminiscent of the "this can’t happen in the real world" scenes of "The Matrix." Yup, bullets travel in curved trajectories, cars do fantastic flips, and how the one dude is able to run down a hallway, crash through a window, leap between some office towers, and still off a group of dudes trying to kill him, well, reality isn’t a true part of "Wanted," so be ready for that, sit back, and enjoy the ludicrousness of the movie.

I will understand if you see "Wanted" and hate it, especially since this movie has more "Oh, come on…" moments then I have probably ever seen, but if you are looking for some unbelievable gunfights, cars flipping over thus giving a clear "kill" shot, and utter bizarreness, you will probably be with me giving it 4 stars out of 5. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the carnage, or hate it like the dude behind me did.  He just didn't seem to sit back, relax, nor enjoy the carnage.

That’s it for this one! I’m The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!!
