I’ve heard a few personalities in my day say something like “This
team is one plane crash away from a championship.” Sure, it’s
a joke for them, but for this movie, and I’m assuming from all I’ve
read that the basic premise is real, that back in 1970, the Marshall
University football team died in a plane crash, and this movie is
the story of the University trying to do two things: Grieve for
their friends, and try to rebuild a devastated sports’ program.
In it we get Matthew McConaughey as Coach Jack. Pretty much he’s
the new coach of the team, and he works to keep the football players
that did survive, well, a football team, and getting some new folks
on the team.
It’s a story meant for the big screen, and I hope it is done
well, because it has a lot of potential, and in a weird way, Matthew
McConaughey seems to be meant for a “coaching” role in a movie. He
just fits that part.
It’s a competitive season for the Christmas films, and this looks
like a tear jerker mixed with an uplifting story. I do know that
even if I can’t fit this into my Holiday movie viewing I’ll be
looking forward to it on DVD.
