Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!
A Movie Review |
|
 |
While watching "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!" I
thought there were only two people that were seeming to enjoy the
movie. Oddly enough those two people were the father of the daughter
sitting a few seats down from me, and me. Why? Because we seemed to be
the only two people getting most of the jokes. Then, as the movie
ended, all of the teenage girls that were there all started chatting
about how they really liked the movie. I’m guessing they were wrapped
up in the love story while dad and I enjoyed more of the comedy.
Seemingly a winner for all involved. Here’s the story…Tad Hamilton
(Josh Duhamel) is a Hollywood hunk. All of the girls love him, think
he is sweet, and think that off-screen he must be just as adorable as
his on-screen characters act. The problem is that Tad has been seduced
by the Hollywood lifestyle, and after a couple of tabloid stories,
well, Tad’s reputation as a playboy starts to get in the way of his
good-guy image on screen, and with that, movie parts start to dry up
for him. His agent and manager, Richard and Richard (Nathan Lane &
Sean Hayes) cook up this contest where Tad will have a date with an
everyday girl to help get his clean-cut image back.
Enter Rosalee (Kate Bosworth).
Rosalee lives in a small town called Frazier’s Bottom in West
Virginia. She’s a checkout clerk at a Piggly Wiggly. There she has two
best friends, Cathy (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Pete (Topher Grace). She
enters the contest and low and behold, wins a date with Tad. Pete’s
not happy about this because, well, Pete is in love with Rosalee but
is too chicken to tell her. So Rosalee is off to Hollywood where she
witnesses a dog in a car seat and children on leashes. She has a nice
date, complete with being star-struck, vomiting in the limo (they
don’t have sideways seating in Frazier’s Bottom), and Tad inviting her
to his place. Much to Tad’s surprise, Rosalee opts to just go back to
the hotel instead of staying at Tad’s. Tad doesn’t know how to take
Rosalee’s "goodness," but as a person not knowing where his life is
really going, he wants to become a real person. Much to Pete’s dismay,
as well as the Richard’s, Tad figures the only way to accomplish this
lifestyle change is to move to Frazier’s Bottom and hang out with
Rosalee.
Sure enough, Rosalee falls in love with Tad, Tad thinks he’s
falling for Rosalee, and Pete figures he’s lost Rosalee forever. I’m
sure you can probably figure out how things go from here, so I won’t
directly ruin the story for you.
"Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!" is totally directed at the teen
dudette crowd, but I actually found it kind of fun too. Kate does a
fantastic job as Rosalee. She comes across as totally sweet and
innocent, with a fantastic smile. Josh as Tad has the flashy smile,
good looks, and plays well the part of the spoiled actor, and Topher
plays the dorky friend who wants to be the boyfriend as well as anyone
could. Sure, the story is predictable, but it does have its moments.
My only disappointment was that again we have a movie that’s really
cute for the entire girl crowd, but the sexual overtones really make
this one for the middle to late teen crowd, either that or I’m quickly
becoming and old-fogy.
There was one point at first I found totally unbelievable, and that
was the point where Rosalee and Cathy go bonkers when they found out
Rosalee won the date with Tad. Here they are, two 22 year old dudettes,
jumping up and down like they won the lottery, or at least a couple of
early teenagers. Would grown women really act like this? But then I
thought, oddly enough, about the wacky people, grownups, who have
spent their life savings to go out and support Michael Jackson. I
guess some people do get that crazy for celebrities.
Well, let’s wrap this up. "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!" was a fun
movie, although some of the content is a little more adult than I
think some parents might be comfortable letting their daughter’s see.
Take that into consideration, hell, you know your children better than
I do. It’s 3 ½ stars out of 5 for this one.
That’s it for this one! I’m The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!! |
