First off, unless there is absolutely nothing else playing the weekend this movie comes out, I probably won’t see it. It’s not that it doesn’t look kind of cute, but it just doesn’t look to be this bachelor’s cup of tea. You, on the other hand, might wonder “Why are they making a sequel to ‘Are We There Yet?’” Well, when a movie has a budget of around $32 Million and the film does around $83 Mill, well, you get to make a sequel.

Anyway, reminding me of “Money Pit,” “Are We Done Yet” brings us Ice Cube as Nick, with his new wife Suzanne (Nia Long). When he finds out he’s going to be a daddy, Nick decides Suzanne and her kids, along with his up-and-coming kid, need to move to the suburbs/woods, and live in his dream home. The problem is that his dream house is a fix-er-upper, and as much as Nick thinks he is a handyman, he’s not, and hilarity ensues.

The movie does look cute, especially for the fans of “Are We There Yet?” so it should do well. And if they keep it PG, it should be cute for the kids as well.

It’s an animated movie, and it looks cute. You get a little kid, Lucas, pissing off an ant hill of, well, ants, usually by drowning them with the water hose. Low and behold, somehow, the ants get a magic potion that will shrink a child down to ant size. Ah, now it time for our little Lucas to learn a lot of lessons about working together, friendship, and being strong, by becoming one with the ant colony.
The movie looks cute, but maybe more for the kids rather than the adults. I’ll still probably try to catch it, but this doesn’t seem to have the fun adult fair other animated movies tend to throw in.

Opening in January, finally most of the artsy movies will be done, and we can just get a decent movie about a recruit joining the Naval Academy. Isn’t that what we all want after Christmas?

Here’s the simple synopsis…

James Franko is Jack. He’s a dude who doesn’t have nearly the connections or standing in society to get into the United States Naval Academy, yet from the trailer, he pesters his way in. Cole is played by Tyrese Gibson. For most of those at the Academy, they got in after high school, yet Cole found his way there after serving a couple of tours of duty and now is an instructor. Cole sees a great future for Jack, only Jack doesn’t always see it, and the story isn’t new, but it looks fairly entertaining. It’s also got Jordana Brewster, who’s looking great.

I’ll have to see how the football season is going if I get a chance to see this film, but it doesn’t look horrible, just kind of re-hashed at a different military school. So what.

The teaser trailer seems to try to build this movie on the “Saw” genre of horror films, and really, there isn’t too much to really care about other than the basic synopsis is that some dude wants to stalk some dudettes related to something when they were all young ins.

The key for this film will be the obvious for the horror genre being a little more fun than the “Saw” side of things, namely some nudity and some sex. It’d got the women, hopefully they will get naked, and then if things are done right there will be blood, and a lot of it. Right now the teaser trailer is only out, it’s from Picturehouse Entertainment so that might mean it won’t even make it to my gigaplex, but in any case I sort of look forward to seeing this on my small screen where I can jump in my seat without the fear of ridicule from the theater goers around me.

Release Date: 2002

The trailer shows a quirky comedy and that’s about it. It doesn’t really give any hints at the story except seeing some thieves and hitting a goat. But after some research the movie, get this, intertwines a divorced dad, cops, the FBI, a housewife, and a homeless dude when there’s a nuclear bomb in a suitcase. And, oh yea, it also has a toad, a python, and a theme park.

From Barry Sonnenfeld and based on a book by Dave Barry, well, who knows. The trailer is kind of funny and now that I know a little more about the story it actually sounds like this could be a wacked-out movie that might just please me.

I didn’t find the first “Big Momma’s House” very entertaining, thought it tried too hard to get laughs, even giving it only 2 out of 5 stars. It should come as no surprise, then, that my initial thought of hearing they are making a sequel was “Why in God’s name would you make a sequel for this movie?” I guess when the original was budgeted around $30 million and made over $100 million you give Martin Lawrence a few bucks to put on the fat lady suit once again to try and fight some crime. After seeing the trailer, this movie really looks horrible, and that’s all I’ve got to say about this.

Sometimes I have no problem with the girly-type film, hell I liked “Nancy Drew,” but other than the fact Anne Hathaway is in this film I have no real desire to see it. Supposedly it’s about Jane Austen before she became famous, and how she developed her style because of the things that happened around her.

Look, I’m not saying it doesn’t look like a decent film, it does look like some fun for young girls, but I really don’t like period pieces set across the pond. Take the girls to see “Becoming Jane,” I’ll probably be catching “Rush Hour 3.”

Okay, I know this is totally a chick-flick, and I’m a Mandy Moore and Piper Perabo fan, but so far the only reason I have to legitimize my going to see it is because there doesn’t seem to be any other movies I really want to see that opens the same weekend. I can see myself in the theater right now, with about 20 dudettes, all of them looking at me funny.

The things I have to do to review movies sometimes.

I hate to stereotype an actor, but the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name Christian Bale is some Huey Lewis & The News playing, a diatribe about Huey’s music, and a woman being chased with a chainsaw. Such is the influence of Christian Bale from “American Psycho.” But how does that relate to “Batman Begins?” Well, it doesn’t, it’s just that’s the first thing I think of hearing the name Christian Bale.

Alright, this movie is a ways out, but it looks to return to the darkness that made the “Batman” with Michael Keaton one of my all time favorite movies. This one gives us a younger Bruce Wayne, a Bruce Wayne learning how to fight, learning there is a cave under the mansion, and learning to become Batman. He has his mission, keep Gotham City safe from the bad guys, and this one gives us one of the favorite comic book bad guys, The Scarecrow.

The story is there, the bad guy is there, as long as they don’t mess around too much with the Batman formula, this should be a good one. We’ll have to wait and see as things get a little closer.

Movie Stats & Links
Starring: Nicolas Cage
MPAA Rated: R
Released By: Lionsgate
Directed By: The Pang Brothers: Oxide Pang Chun, Danny Pang

Some roles I don’t like Nicolas Cage in, but “Bangkok Dangerous” seems to be one of those movies I think I’ll like to see because he seems to play the brooding, loner, in this case being a kick-ass assassin, but then develops some kind of morals, maybe forgetting his basic rule of not getting personally involved with, well, people. For this one Joe (Cage) is hired to off a group of dudes, and, needing some help, he hires a street dude to sort of be his personal delivery boy. All of a sudden Joe learns a lot more about the killing work he has been hired to do, sure, there’s a cute Asian girl involved, and now he is on the run, looking to, oh, who cares? It’s rated R, there looks to be some quality kills, some sex, and maybe even some bad language tossed in for good measure!
