The Dude on the Right
On a bright sunny Friday morning, there is only one thing to say
-"Turn off the sun!!!" It's nice and all, but last night
was Bog night and, well.... you know. But alas, another band rolled
through the Bog, this time it brought the return of Rude Mood. Yep,
that's right, Rude Mood. Basically a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band,
but throwing in others for good measure.
The band started off with basically no vocals and a lot of feedback,
but what else is new!?! Then there was this really strange buzzing
coming through the speakers and no guitars in the monitors. Oh Well,
at least the band kept going, and going, and going. It was kinda
like the Energizer Bunny down there last Thursday with probably the
longest Bog night in history going past the one o'clock hour. And it
was good too.
Yep, they played the best of Stevie Ray, through in some Hendrix,
and many other blues tunes for the evening, and it was kinda strange
because people were even dancing for most of the evening. I like it,
the guitar playing was excellent, and all in all it was one hell of
a good time for all - especially that couple in the corner who
although not paying attention to the band, seemed to be having a
good time of their own.
So, the first drum roll please - and I give Rude Mood the coveted
TWO THUMBS UP!!! The first of the semester, and hopefully not the
last.
And on to even bigger and better things, one of my favoritist
people in the whole wide world, Garth Brooks. Yep, the old G.B. blew
through town for four sold-out shows at the wonderful(?) Rosemont
Horizon. Yours truly and my bud were fortunate enough to find two
trusting young lovelies to come with us and see one hell of a show.
Some old favorites, new tunes, and a couple of covers (the acoustic
"Candle in the Wind" by Elton John was most excellent)
kept the crowd going nuts the entire evening. Yip, yip, yip, ya
hoooooeeeeeeeyyyyy!!!!! I guess it's needless to say that the Garth
Man get TWO THUMBS UP plus ONE. My dream now is Garth in the Bog. It
could happen, and then again there might be a chance they will lower
tuition next year.
So, that's it for the Right Dude this week. Coming in the Bog to
a campus near you this Thursday is a band called British Import. If
you like the Beatles or any of those other U.K. bands, be there or
be square. WE WANT THE NERDS!! And as always, Rellim Reeb, Rellim
Reeb!!!
Big Cooter
Good Band but Bad Beer. Argh! Isn't that supposed to be Bad Band and
Good Beer? I was pretty perturbed this past Bog night as my favorite
beverage seemed to have an odd flavor to it. I couldn't quite place
it but it definitely was not the norm. So, my advice to the Bog
employees is to find a good slow day and clean out them lines to the
Tap as that might be there problem. Sorry, I got on a minor tangent
but my beverage, everyone else's beverage also, happens to be a big
concern on Bog nights. Welp, the Band in the Bog this past concert
evening happened to be Rude Mood. These guys were excellent the last
time I saw them in the Bog and I fully expected them to perform well
up to par this time around.
Rude Mood was comprised of three members. The bare necessity in
what you need to be considered a band. A bass player, lead guitarist
and a drummer. Together they comprised one of the best Blues bands
that we could get down in the Bog for a reasonable amount of dough.
Now on to what they played.
I was not the least disappointed as these guys brought their
interesting combination of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix into
the Bog. And it really seemed as though the crowd was really into
the concert, as their was someone dancing, albeit one person at
times, almost all the way through the night. Maybe it had something
to do with midterms being the last week or so. Doh! I just lost my
complete train of thought cuz the Dude on the Right walked in and
turned on All My Kids. Umm. Oh yeah, Rude Mood played mostly Stevie
Ray with a few thrown in Hendrix tunes and a couple of Bo Diddley
tunes. All in all, it was pretty much a Blues kind of an evening.
So, I guess that brings to me that special time of the article
where I must take all the considerations in mind and give the band
that they deserve. I guess Rude Mood is going to get TWO THUMBS UP!
Whoa, that's a total of FOUR THUMBS UP! I can not tell ya how much I
really enjoyed this band. Granted they were playing the Blues but
they happened to be able to rock it up with the best of them. So
that is the first Two Thumber of this semester.
Now on to a few observations from the past Bog night. I do
believe that first and foremost I must point out that pleasant
couple over in the one corner of the Bog that were practically
getting' in each other's pants. I have one thing that I have to tell
this couple, "GET A ROOM!" Come on cheap skate. Take her
to your room or get a hotel room for a night if you are afraid of
your roommate walking in on ya. And just another reminder, cuz I am
that kinda guy, No Glove, No Love. Don't go in without your rubbers.
One last thing before I close up this article. That being the
fact that my partner and I ventured on a brief road trip to Rosemont
to Garth Brooks! Yee Haw! What a damn good show. I say UB should
spend the rest of the budget trying to get Garth in the auditorium.
He played everything. Hell, even Garth did a couple of cover tunes.
Those were "Candle in the Wind" by Elton John and
"American Band" by ummmm, damn Dude on the Right did it
again and now I can't recall. Oh well, Garth Brooks gets TWO THUMBS
UP and an added Appendage UP! Yep, Garth gets even more than a total
of FOUR THUMBS UP!! He deserves Entertainer of the Year, not crappy
old Vince Gill!
Well that does it for me this week. So until next week, study
hard or hardly study but by all means get your work done early so we
can pack the Bog to the Walls! And I will C.U.Next Thursday. |
