This was my first Jimmy Buffet concert, I guess you could say I was a virgin parrothead. But no more. Now I am experienced in the ways of Margaritaville and Cheeseburgers in Paradise. But seriously, a Jimmy Buffet concert is one that cannot be explained, only experienced. Off the heals of his latest album, Fruitcakes, King Parrothead led the crowd through decades of classics to the best of his new. The standards were there, your "Volcano," "Son of a Sailor," "Let's Get Drunk and Screw," and the like, but even the new music sounded fresh. "Fruitcakes" was one of those "we live with a bunch of freaks - glad I'm not one of them (although I second guessed that lady wearing the bird-cage hat with a live parrot in it) songs." Even "Vampires, Mummies and the Holy Ghost" was really cool. This show was just one big party. I really don't know what to say except seeing "Fins to the left, Fins to the right" through the whole crowd is way cool too.

And you guessed it, Jimmy Buffet and his band of players gets the coveted TWO THUMBS UP!!! I was impressed, and you know I'll be back next year!!

"Fins to the Right, > , Fins to the Left, < ." Imagine if you will, a hundred million people in the pavilion and lawn of Poplar Creek doing such a thing. Gosh, it almost gave me goose bumps like when I hear the national anthem at a Chicago Blackhawks' game. This was how almost the entire night of the Jimmy Buffet concert went. People really having a great time at a show. Now, this was also my first time at a parrothead show and boy did I feel like I stood out like a sore thumb. I think I was one of a handful of people not wearing a Hawaiian shirt and possessed nothing with a parrot on it whatsoever. But none the less a lesson learned and the next time I won't be quite the ignorant person. Buffet's show was very entertaining, from the moving parts on his back drop to the cheeseburger that came floating through the air during Cheeseburger in Paradise. I am glad that I had the opportunity to get to this show and will make plans to see the next time he is in town. Jimmy Buffet gets a surprising TWO THUMBS UP! Or not so surprising two thumbs depending on whether you are getting used to reading rave reviews.  Hang loose!
