OK. Log off and go see Wes Craven's movie "Scream"
right now! Trust me. It's a great move.
You're still here? Obviously you don't trust me and need more convincing. All
right... The movie opens with a blonde cutie, played by Drew Barrymore, sitting
at home waiting for the boyfriend to come over and watch a movie. The phone
rings and she answers it. It's a wrong number, or so she thinks. It's actually
the start of a psychopath's murder game, or is it the start? Maybe it's the
continuation by the same murderer who got away with his crimes before when
Sidney's (Neve Campbell) testimony jailed the wrong guy. Just who is killing the
young innocent victims of this town nearly one year after Sidney's mother was
murdered? Did Sidney's dad loose it? Is it Billy (Skeet Ulrich), Sidney's
sexually frustrated boyfriend? How about the local video store boy who is
totally into slasher movies? Or... could it be the young, unrespected, local
sheriff's deputy Dewey (David Arquette)? Throughout this movie you're led to
believe it could be any of these people for a number of reasons.
About a quarter of the way through this movie I thought I had everything
figured out, but it got me in the end, kind of like the movie "The Usual
Suspects" in how it throws you off track of the killer. Murderer, motive, and
all caught me by surprise, and I dare say this is the best slasher movie I've
ever seen. No offense to the classics, but this movie incorporates the best
aspects of them all with it's twists and turns.
I highly recommend "Scream," give it 3 1/2 stars, and I'm a scared Stu Gotz!
